Who is Make-A-Wish?
Make-A-Wish creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.
Our mission is to bring an extraordinary wish to life for every child with a life-threatening illness – a quest sparked by the belief that wishes are integral to a child’s treatment.
We believe wishes have the power to transform the lives of sick kids, their families and communities.
Wishes complement a child’s medical treatment, with the power to calm, distract and empower sick kids at the time they need it most.
When a wish is realised, a child discovers that despite their situation, anything is possible.
Thousands of Australian children are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness each year.
- Approximately 3,000 babies are born with a heart condition each year,
- One in every 2,500 births produces a child with cystic fibrosis, and
- Over 950 children and adolescents (0-19 year olds) are diagnosed with cancer
While many children eventually learn to cope with or even beat their illness, normal childhood experiences can easily get lost in the months and years of treatment needed to survive. There’s little opportunity for sick kids to just be kids, enjoying the moments other families take for granted.
Since 1985, we’ve made more than 10,000 wishes come true, and counting!
Make-A-Wish is a trusted global children’s charity that runs as an independent non-profit in Australia.
With more than 700 families currently on their Wish Journey, we rely on the generosity and support of local volunteers, business partners and communities to bring wishes to life.
Together, we can give seriously ill children the anticipation and legacy of one true wish – helping them discover anything is possible.
